Angela E.L. Barnes

Founder


Angela founded Sustainable Wellness Innovation as an outgrowth of City Tech Collaborative’s Healthy Cities Initiative. Angela served as the General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs & Growth Initiatives for City Tech where she co-led the design and build of City Tech’s racial equity and inclusion framework.



Angela is a corporate lawyer, a risk management and compliance professional, an entrepreneur, and a life-long southside Chicagoan. She is a passionate advocate for providing services and resources to underserved geographic and demographic communities. Angela has stood at the intersection of race, gender, and sexual orientation to help guide the strategic thinking and direction for organizations where she has proudly served as a member of the board of directors. Angela’s board service includes being the current Board Chair for the Center on Halsted, the immediate past Board Chair for Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, and a member of the Racial Justice Diversity Committee for the Northern District of Illinois.


Angela also founded Hoffman-Barnes Risk Management Consulting, a risk management and compliance consulting company and is the co-owner of Nobody’s Darling, a black woman-owned cocktail bar in the Andersonville neighborhood.
